:: The MSC Mission and Goals ::
Background
The sport of motocross has been devastated by a
series of tragic injuries that have killed riders from
preschoolers to experienced pros and left several
riders paralyzed for life.

Many factors can contribute to racing injuries:
speed, terrain, rider ability and conditioning,
motorcycle maintenance, track condition, improper
influence, and race administration among them.
Mission
The mission of the Motocross Safety Council is to
reduce the potential for and seriousness of
motocross-related injuries by providing educational
materials and behavioral guidelines that promote
safety awareness.
To implement its mission the MSC will pursue the following goals:
Motocross is an ultra-hazardous activity.  Those who participate should do so
knowingly and should be willing to accept the risks associated with off-road
motorcycle competition.  Our goal is to help riders and families reduce those
risks and help everyone spend more time riding and less time healing.
Our Motto
Go home in the vehicle you came in!
Bill Matthews
MSC Board Member Bill Matthews of
Alabama is a seasoned and highly
respected motocrosser.  After
enjoying over 30 years in the sport
and several trips to the Amateur
Nationals Bill recently cracked his
C-1 and broke his C-6 and C-7 in a
low speed crash.  Fortunately he
was not paralyzed and surgery
enabled him to go back to work.  He
has been forced to give up the sport
he loves--and like other MSC
members and supporters wants to
prevent others from suffering the
same fate or worse.
Build an effective volunteer organization committed to improving MX safety
Develop behavioral guidelines in the form of "codes of conduct" that
encourage sound safety practices
Develop educational materials that help parents, riders and promoters
make informed decisions that lead to safer and more enjoyable racing
experiences
Distribute our behavioral guidelines and educational materials to the
largest audience possible
Conduct education sessions at riders meetings, town hall meetings and
MX schools that help riders, parents, and track officials make decisions that
enhance rider and track worker safety within the competition framework.
